Day 41: Even More Wisps!

Shadows are back, baby!

At least, Shadows are approaching getting done, by which I mean my demo crew now has most things other than the Leader painted, which was an undertaking to say the least. Right now, I have enough done that it’s possible to play with the crew, which was quite the process, let me tell you.

So, here’s more Wisps!

Wisps, Again

It’s all the Wisps! For now, at least. I’m gonna need more for bigger games.

Wisps were painted, as before, using the same paints as discussed in my previous post on Wisps, but with a couple changes to the techniques used. Rather than a ton of glazing, I opted to try a lot more wet-blending for these two, and I think it mostly worked. In general, my goal is to make sure everything mostly matches while on the board, and in this regard, I can’t actually tell which were the Wisps I painted more recently.

Wisps remain roughly the same as they were before, mechanically, but with the added bonus of having more of them in model form. My eventual goal is to have more than enough Wisps to run one of the larger cooperative scenarios fighting against the Shadows, as I suspect having some spare models available for that will really help me out one the players start taking out swathes of enemies.

Hobby Progress

The Shadows are very nearly finished! I know I keep saying this, but it’s true – I’ve started putting basecoats on the Leader, so soon I’ll have all 9 models for the crew painted, as well as the two Shadow Portal tokens that I don’t technically need, but which add a ton of atmosphere to the whole crew.

After that, it’s on to finishing up my Brotherhood Leader, and then it’ll be time to prime so I can get my remaining demo crews ready. At the moment, Debonn is the only demo crew that’s completely primed, but I’m thinking that Pirates are going to be a popular choice for the game about Pirates, so the model I need to prime for them is going to take priority. As for the other crews that I’m working on:

  • Amazons need a couple models to be primed.
  • ELTC is waiting on a single model to get a coat of primer.
  • Tianyu is completely unprimed, but they are assembled.

Once those are all primed, it’ll be time to start working on the secondary demo crews or figuring out what else needs painting when people have had a chance to play a demo and indicate what they might want to play moving forward. At that point, I get to start thinking about how to get people playing a bit more, but we’re still a ways off from that, as having nicely painted demo crews is still the primary objective here.
